SENIOR LEGION: Marion Center's Selkirk tosses 5-hitter
Aside from the pair of two-run homers he surrendered, Marion Center pitcher Jared Selkirk pitched well against Punxsutawney’s lineup Monday.
Selkirk pitched a five-hitter and host Marion Center piled up 10 hits to coast to a 9-4 win in an Indiana County Senior Legion baseball game.
Jamie Bush cranked a two-run homer to put Punxsutawney on the board first in the top of the first inning.
Marion Center answered in the bottom of the first, plating three runs on three hits and a walk.
An inning later, Marion Center scored two runs on a hit and two walks to take a 5-2 lead.
Selkirk, who struck out two and walked four, pitched five scoreless innings before serving up a two-run shot to Ty Zimmerman in the seventh.
“Jared told me before the game started that he didn’t have his best stuff,” Marion Center coach Joe Bunyak said. “He didn’t have his good fastball, but he still threw a good game. He has a knuckle ball he used to keep them off balance. He worked it pretty good.”
C.J. Stiles paced Marion Center by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Seth Goodlin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Hunter Stitler finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Matt Popovich singled and scored three runs.
Zimmerman finished 2-for-3 for Punxsutawney.
Cory Geer struck out seven and walked five in a complete-game losing effort.
Both teams play today. Marion Center (10-6) travels to Young Township, and Punxsutawney (9-2) visits Indiana Legion.
