Skater earns five gold medals

Lily Carone, a seventh-grader at Indiana Area Junior High School, earned gold medals in each of her five freestyle and ice dance events at the Ice Skating Institute World Team Championships in Boston at the end of July. More than 1,400 skaters from 24 states, China, the Philippines and Qatar competed in the weeklong competition. Carone, who was highlighted in the summer edition of the Ice Skating Institute’s international magazine. trains under coaches Laurie Bowers at Planet Ice in Johnstown and Bob Mock at Bladerunners in Harmarville and practices at S&T Bank Arena in White Township. She was presented with the United States Figure Skating Test Award by Ice and Blades Figure Skating Club in Harmarville on Aug. 22 for earning the highest number of points for tests passed during the 2013-14 season. This summer, she also passed her U.S. Figure Skating pre-gold ice dances.
