TRACK AND FIELD: Piccirillo qualifies for nationals
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Villanova sophomore Angel Piccirillo ran a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 15.16 seconds and placed fourth overall in the 1,500-meter run Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminary meet to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Piccirillo, a Homer-Center High School graduate, was never outside the top five runners while crushing her previous personal-best time of 4:17.63 by more than two seconds to punch her first ticket to nationals. Piccirillo achieved her previous personal-best time at the Big East Championships on May 11, when she placed second to help Villanova win the conference team title for the first time since 2000.
Piccirillo will run in the national semifinals on June 12, and the national championship race will be June 14.
