Woodrow competes in NCAA meet
PITTSBURGH — Alex Woodrow, a Marion Center High School graduate and sophomore at Duquesne University, competed in the NCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on Thursday.
Woodrow raced in the 10,000-meter run and placed 20th in a field of 48 with a time of 30 minutes, 21.40 seconds.
Paul Katam of UNC-Greensboro won with a time of 29:50. The top 12 advanced to the NCAA finals in Eugene, Ore.
Woodrow qualified for the NCAA preliminaries by running a 29:44.27 at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell on April 14.
This marks the third straight year and seventh in the past eight Duquesne sent a male athlete to the preliminaries. Woodrow is the fifth student-athlete in school history to qualify, following assistant coach Tom Slosky (2006-08), Derek Dutille (2009), Mike Stolar (2011) and Jim Spisak (2011-12).
Roman camp set at Penns Manor
KENWOOD — The Dave Roman Basketball camp will be held at Penns Manor Elementary School on June 24 to 28.
The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 4 to 12 in the fall.

IUP baseball camp scheduled
The IUP baseball team will hold a summer camp from June 17 to 20 for players ages 7-15.
The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the Owen J. Dougherty complex on IUP’s South Campus.
The cost is $110 with early registration, and $125 the week of the camp.
The IUP coaching staff and players will offer instruction.

West Shamokin sets physicals
NuMINE — Physical exams for West Shamokin students in grades 6 through 11 who plan to play a sport in any season in 2013-14 will be held Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m. at the school nurse’s office.
Students must use the PIAA CIPPE form for their sports physicals. Forms are available in the school office and must be completed and signed by a parent prior to the exam.
Exams completed by a family doctor cannot be dated before June 1. The school exam is not valid for the Shannock Valley youth football and cheerleading programs.
Official fall practices begin Monday, Aug. 12.
