YOUTH LEGION BASEBALL: Kovacik keeps winning

Unbeaten Kovacik Insurance plated five runs in the fifth inning and limited Marion Center to two hits en route to a 10-0 win in an Indiana County Youth Legion game that was shortened to six innings due to the mercy rule Monday at WyoTech Park.

The Giants led 5-0 before scoring five runs on three hits, two walks and an error in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-0 lead and enforce the mercy rule. Omar Ward, who had three hits, capped the rally with a two-run triple.

Austin Gaston struck out three and allowed one hit in 3 1-3 innings to earn the win. Bubba Seitz struck out four, walked none and allowed one hit in 2 2-3 innings of relief.

Gaston and Ryan Shirley each banged out two base hits.

Eric Stitt had both of Marion Center’s hit.

Both teams play Wednesday. Kovacik Insurance (12-0) plays host to I-Medical, and Marion Center (5-5) travels to Clymer Legion.

I-MEDICAL 11, YOUNG TOWNSHIP 1: Host I-Medical racked up nine hits and plated six runs in the sixth inning to topple Young Township in a game shortened to six innings due to the mercy rule.

Derek Huey and Caleb Smith each had two hits, and Lucas Ambler drove in two runs for I-Medical.

Joey DiPietro struck out seven in five innings to get the win.

Jake Townsend stroked two hits to pace Young Township.

Both teams play Wednesday. I-Medical (9-3) travels to Kovacik Insurance, and Young Township (7-4) plays host to Indiana Lions.
