KOVACIK INSURANCE 11, UNITED NRG: Austin Gaston and John Fetchko combined on a five-inning no-hitter in a game played in Armagh. The game was shortened due to the mercy rule.

The starting pitcher, Gaston struck out seven and walked three in three innings. Fetchko struck out three and walked one in two innings of relief.

“It’s very good for the beginning of the year,” Kovacik Insurance coach Dan Shirley said. “Neither of them were playing high school baseball.

“I didn’t even realize Austin had a no-hitter, or I might not have taken him out.”

Shortstop Omar Ward went into the hole to make a barehanded stop, and first baseman Ryan Shirley dug the throw out of the dirt for the final out, preserving the no-hitter.

Ricky Shirley hit an inside-the-park home run, Fetchko tripled and Kullen Gardner had two hits.

Nick Beiter struck out two and walked four, taking the loss for United NRG.

Kovacik (2-0) plays host to Shoemaker Funeral Home on Friday. United (0-1) visits Indiana Lions on Wednesday.
