by The Indiana Gazette on June 23, 2014 10:20 AM

Cage Hankinson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Marion Center to a 3-2 win over visiting Shoemaker Funeral Home in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Sunday.

Hankinson, who led off the seventh with a base hit, advanced to third base on Eric Stitt’s double. Two batters later, Shoemaker Funeral Home pitcher Dylan Direnzo threw a ball in the dirt, allowing Hankinson to score the game-winning run.

“As soon as the ball hit the dirt I sent him,” Marion Center coach Don Stitt said. “He’s got enough speed, and with the backstop being a nice distance behind the catcher, I knew he’d score easily.”

Eric Stitt struck out two, walked three and allowed eight hits in a complete-game win. He also stroked two doubles.

Taylor McCunn singled twice for Marion Center.

Zack Olechovski, Tyler Doran and Marty Foreman each singled twice for Shoemaker Funeral Home.
