YOUTH LEGION BASEBALL ROUNDUP: CLYMER LEGION 5, UNITED NRG 4
CLYMER LEGION 5, UNITED NRG 4: Kyle Detwiler scored the game-winning run on a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Clymer Legion to a win over visiting United NRG.
With the score tied 4-4 in the seventh, Clymer Legion’s Wyatt Patterson laid down a bunt that a United NRG player fielded cleanly before throwing errantly over his first baseman’s head to allow lead runner Detwiler to score the game-winning run.
“It was just a fun game to watch,” Clymer Legion coach Bill Lightner said. “Both of these teams have had rough seasons, but we both played tough right down to the end. It was just a shame someone had to lose this one.”
Clymer’s Jimmy Lightner struck out one, walked one and surrendered three hits in two innings of relief to pick up the win. Lightner also smacked two singles.
Austin Shirley had two base hits for the winners.
Garrett Duckworth singled twice to pace United NRG.
Clymer Legion (3-14) travels to United NRG on Wednesday for its scheduled season finale. United NRG (2-10) plays host to Young Township on Friday.
KOVACIK INSURANCE 13, INDIANA LIONS 3: Kovacik Insurance piled up 13 hits and improved to 16-0 with an easy win over visiting Indiana Lions in a game that was shortened to six innings due to the mercy rule.
“They’re doing a great job,” Kovacik Insurance coach Dan Shirley said. “I’ve been coaching these kids since they were six and seven years old, and they’re really playing well right now.”
Dakota Sunday tossed a four-hitter to earn the win. Sunday struck out 13 and walked one.
Ryan Shirley singled three times, doubled and drove in four runs to power the Giants. Austin Gaston singled three times, and Cullen Gardner singled twice.
Losing pitcher Tommy Budash struck out six and walked seven in five innings.
Kovacik Insurance travels to Walbeck Insurance today. Indiana Lions (9-6) heads to Kovacik Insurance on Friday.
