YOUTH LEGION BASEBALL: Young Township tops Lions
Young Township plated seven of the game’s last 10 runs to outlast Indiana Lions for a 14-10 win in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Monday at Lions Field.
Leading 10-9, Young Township scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 14-9 lead. Tanner Yard cracked a two-run double and then later stole home to highlight the rally.
Doug Shaffer and Tyler Hill each singled twice to lead Young Township.
Yard struck out three and allowed six hits in six innings to pick up the win. Brady Neal allowed one hit in one inning of relief to earn the save.
Tom Budash and Ian Helsel each singled three times for Indiana Lions. Helsel, the losing pitcher, struck out five and allowed two hits in 4 2-3 innings.
Both teams play Wednesday. Indiana Lions (5-2) travels to Derry, and Young Township plays host to I-Medical.
CLYMER LEGION 12, UNITED 2: Host Clymer Legion plated 12 unanswered runs, including six in the sixth inning, to thump United in a game that was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.
Kyle Templeton paced Clymer Legion by going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Ron Button fired a four-hitter, striking out one and walking one.
Losing pitcher Kyle Baird tossed a five-hitter, striking out four and walking seven. Baird also drilled an RBI single.
Clymer Legion (6-3) plays host to S.W. Jack on Wednesday, and United travels to Derry on Friday.
