YOUTH LEGION: Young Township tops Fezell
Young Township racked up 12 hits and used big bursts in the second and third innings to topple Fezell Enterprises, 14-6, in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Friday at Bertolino Field.
Young Township trailed 2-0 before plating seven runs on four hits and four walks in the bottom of the second inning. Tanner Yard sparked the rally with a three-run double.
An inning later, Devin Fairman belted a three-run double to fuel a five-run rally that put Young Township ahead 12-2. Fairman doubled twice and drove in five runs.
Yard finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Doug Shaffor went 3-for-4.
Fairman, the winning pitcher, struck out two and allowed five hits in 5 2-3 innings.
Lucas Ambler stroked a pair of singles for Fezell Enterprises.
Losing pitcher Peyton Graham struck out seven in five innings.
Young Township (3-1) plays host to Marion Center on Wednesday, and Fezell Enterprises travels to I-Medical on Friday.
UNITED 4, MARION CENTER 0: Ben Smith tossed a two-hitter to guide visiting United over winless Marion Center.
Smith struck out four and walked one.
Beau Sheriff led United with a single and a double. Kolt Jarvis cracked an RBI double.
Losing pitcher Erik Hicks struck out one and allowed six hits in six innings.
Both teams play today. United plays host to Indiana Lions, and Marion Center (0-8) travels to Young Township.
DERRY 7, WALBECK INSURANCE 3: Derry outhit Walbeck Insurance 10-4 and used a big rally in the eighth inning to score a win at First Commonwealth Field.
With the game tied 3-3, Derry plated four runs on four hits, two walks and an error in the top of the eighth to take a 7-3 lead.
Devin Siko tossed a four-hitter, striking out four and walking three. Siko also singled and doubled, and Zac Blystone singled twice.
Matt Alexander singled twice for Walbeck.
Losing pitcher Stephen Novak struck out seven and walked one in 7 1-3 innings.
Walbeck Insurance (2-3) travels to Indiana Lions today, and Derry plays host to Clymer Legion on Wednesday.
CLYMER LEGION 7, I-MEDICAL 5: Clymer Legion plated seven of the game’s first eight runs and then held off a late push from I-Medical to earn a win in Clymer.
Brad Remaley drove in the eventual game-winning runs when he smacked a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Clymer Legion ahead 7-1.
Remaley finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Kyle Templeton singled and doubled.
Clayton Stupic fired a five-hitter, striking out four and walking three.
Both teams play Wednesday. Clymer Legion (4-1) travels to Derry, and I-Medical plays host to Walbeck Insurance.
