The 2020 Leader’s Circle Awards banquet has been canceled due to issues resulting from the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. The Leader’s Circle Committee has been monitoring the situation since it began.
The nominations process for the various awards is a lengthy one, organizers said. Sufficient time is needed to promote the nominating process, ensure fairness in the nominating and judging, and to provide nominees sufficient time in accepting the nomination and preparing themselves and their families for the date of the banquet, according to statement issued by the committee,
The committee said that shortening this process would not allow for nearly enough time to select nominees in an appropriate manner that would be reflective of the recognition these outstanding individuals deserve. The committee also said that moving the date until later in the year or offering a virtual option was not feasible and would not be fair to the nominees or the committee.
Organizers said they look forward to bringing back the ATHENA, ATHENA Young Professional, and Male and Female Civic Leader of the Year awards in 2021. A firm date and time and additional details on the nomination process will be released early next year.
