NCAA BASKETBALL: Pitt women lose fourth straight
NO. 17 NORTH CAROLINA 86, PITTSBURGH 50: Allisha Gray scored 21 points and Diamond DeShields added 19 as No. 17 North Carolina clobbered Pittsburgh in an ACC game.
Coming off an 11-point win at No. 3 Duke on Monday, the Tar Heels (19-6, 7-4 ACC) shot 48.6 percent from the field and limited the Panthers (10-15, 2-9) to 27.9 percent, including a dismal 2-for-21 from 3-point range.
Asia Logan led Pitt with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Loliya Briggs joined Logan in double figures with 10 points.
The Panthers lost their fourth straight game.
North Carolina broke away from a 2-2 tie with 13 straight points, seven from Xylina McDaniel. With Gray and DeShields making two baskets each, the Tar Heels had a 9-0 run for a 31-11 lead at the 7:28 mark. It was 42-25 at the half.
Midway through the second half a 10-0 surge pushed the lead to 74-40.
The Tar Heels only made half of their 16 free throws, but they went 8-for-20 from 3-point range.
