Officials at Yellow Creek State Park are reminding Indiana County residents that the beach area and northern end of Loop 2 in the day-use are closed this season during a major renovation.
The project involves new comfort facilities, playground, concessions and beach sand replenishment at the 2,981-acre state park east of Indiana.
“The project is scheduled to be completed this fall meaning that next summer the brand new beach should be open to the public,” Park Manager James Tweardy said Tuesday. “The remainder of the park is open as usual.”
Boat rentals are now being handled by a third party.
“We have a new boat concessionaire with all brand new equipment,” Tweardy said. “It is called Yellow Creek Rental and Supply. Visit their Facebook page or call them at (724) 403-2229.”
The park, established in 1963, is located in Brush Valley and Cherryhill townships.
The park is named for Yellow and Little Yellow creeks, which flow into the lake. Both creeks contain yellow clay in their banks and bottoms.
During the renovation, Tweardy suggested that individuals could swim at nearby beaches Keystone State Park in Westmoreland County or at Prince Gallitzin State Park in Cambria County.
