A power line snapped off a transformer behind The Indiana Gazette building at 899 Water St. shortly before noon, leaving a loose line.
Indiana Borough Police Department quickly responded to block off North Ninth Street near the intersection with Jimmy Stewart Avenue behind the Gazette building.
The outage occurred after the press run had been completed on Tuesday’s Indiana Gazette.
According to FirstEnergy, 1,549 customers, or about a quarter of the total number of Penelec customers in Indiana Borough, were without power as of 12:30 p.m.
FirstEnergy, parent company of Penelec, predicted that service would be restored by 3 p.m. today.
