An Armstrong County man was killed Friday just after 6:30 a.m. after losing control of his motorcycle, traveling through a yard and striking a telephone pole and fire hydrant in Gilpin Township.
The man, identified as Ronald M. Mego, 55, of Leechburg, was thrown approximately 30 feet from his 2001 Harley-Davidson in the 3100 block of River Road.
Mego was pronounced dead at the scene by Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers.
Myers said in a news release that speed is believed to have been a factor in the fatal crash. Mego’s cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma to the head and chest.
Myers aid Mego was wearing a helmet and no autopsy will be performed.
Toxicology results to be back in a few weeks, Myers said.
