NORTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP — A Marion Center man died in a two-vehicle crash Monday night on Route 119.
State police at Punxsutawney said William Burkett, 69, was killed when his 2003 Nissan Xterra crossed the double yellow lines and struck a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup operated by Natasha Ulichnie, 30, of Creekside, in a near head-on collision.
The accident occurred just north of Juneau Road around 6:14 p.m. It caused major front-end damage to both vehicles.
Trooper Clinton Deemer said Burkett was pronounced dead at the scene and Ulichnie was taken to UPMC Altoona by STAT Medevac for injuries of unknown severity.
Indiana County coroner Jerry Overman Jr. said Burkett became entrapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters.
Overman listed Burkett’s case of death as blunt force trauma.
Deemer reported that Burkett was not wearing a seat belt, but Ulichnie was. Deemer said the investigation is ongoing.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Rossiter, Lindsey and Perry Township fire departments and Jefferson County EMS.
Burkett is the 13th person to die on Indiana County roadways this year, according to records kept by the Gazette.
