GREEN TOWNSHIP — Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr. said a 71-year-old Commodore man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle struck a deer along state Route 240 near his Green Township home.

Overman said John D. Hoover was taken to the emergency department at Indiana Regional Medical Center following the 8:15 p.m. crash but was pronounced dead there at 9:47 p.m.

State police were called in to investigate the crash. Commodore Volunteer Fire Department was called for traffic control and to set up a landing zone for a Stat Medevac helicopter.

Citizens’ Ambulance also was called.

The coroner said the manner of death was accidental, due to blunt force trauma to the head, chest and abdomen.
