NCAA FOOTBALL: Auburn QB won’t start in opener
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall won’t start in the season opener against Arkansas.
Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Friday after the first practice of preseason camp that neither Marshall nor cornerback Jonathon Mincy will be on the field when the game starts.
Malzahn didn’t say how long they’ll remain on the bench, or if they’ll play in the game.
He said starting right guard Alex Kozan has had back surgery and will miss the season after a weightlifting injury at home.
Marshall was cited for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and a window tint violation during a July 11 traffic stop in Georgia.
His mother paid the $1,100 in fines.
Mincy was arrested and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana in June.
