George W. “Bill” Federoff, 71, of Indiana, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 28, 1939, he was the son of Ethel Helen McKittrick Federoff and William Paul Federoff.
Bill served in the San Jose Fire Department for 30 years, from 1963 until his retirement in 1993.
He retired as a captain and was a proud member of the San Jose Fire Department Muster Team, restoring and operating historic fire engines and ladder trucks.
Bill was a very strong family man who was talented in woodworking and had a wonderful relationship with anything mechanical.
He was outgoing and friendly and very, very brave in the face of years of adversity.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Lynda (Ciano) Federoff; four children: George William Jr., 49; Michael Stephen, 47; Danette Jeanine Knudsen, 45; and Taralyn Elizabeth Federoff, 18; three grandchildren: Zachery Robert Knudsen, 18; Tanisha Federoff, 15; and Noah Federoff, 14; many close and loving cousins, including Millicent “Mickey” Dawson and husband Douglas, of Prineville, Ore.; sister Joyce Weller, of Los Angeles; Judy Hernandez, of Fremont, Calif.; and Margie Battaion, of Fremont; and wonderful friends and the brotherhood of the fire service, which was an integral part of his identity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill in 1946, and Ethel in 1999.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana. Family will be available for visitation at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More University Parish, immediately preceding a 10 a.m. funeral Mass.
The celebrant will be Father William Lechnar. Interment will be private.
