Letter to the Editor: Florida contingent roots for Saltsburg

on March 12, 2017 12:59 AM

Besides the Saltsburg fans in Indiana County, there is quite a Florida following here in the Lake Wales area.

We read the Gazette religiously, especially the sports pages since our beloved Trojans are once again making basketball history and recently racked up their first District 6 championship in almost 15 years.

Three of us who live here, Jerry Clawson, Sam Brink and yours truly, are 1953 graduates and my brother Frank is a 1955 grad. Of course the former Arlene Clawson, class of 1954, is Clawson’s wife. Less than two hours away, in Titusville, Andy Shayka, another ’53 grad, makes his permanent home. Of course, we are all very proud of the Saltsburg team and wish them all the best as they begin their run in the state tournament.

This weekend we will have a mini-Saltsburg class reunion as Rogers Frassenei, who is also a member of the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame, will be here. Earl Cyphert made the reunion last year but due to health issues, will be unable to attend.

We all continue to follow the Trojans, and win or lose, it has been one of the best season’s in the school’s history,

Go Trojans!
