Letter to the Editor: What Bible says about homosexuality
To begin, this is to clarify what God says in the Bible regarding homosexuality. This is not an attack on anybody, but to make clear what God says about this sin. God said in II Peter 1:20, “no prophesy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation,” therefore, let us see what the Bible says.
We know in Genesis 2:18-24 that God made man and from man he made woman. He made them for each other. Nowhere in the Scriptures does God permit homosexuality.
God says in Leviticus 18:22, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as womankind: it is an abomination.” In Leviticus 20:13: “If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.” It is clear and there is no other way to interpret God’s word. Homosexuality is an abomination.
Some would say this is Old Testament and not relevant today. Let’s look at the New Testament.
Romans 1:24: “God gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves.” This shows that sodomy is an individual’s choice, not “I was born that way.” All sin is the choice of the one who commits it. The murderer or thief can’t say “I was born that way.”
Consider Romans 1:25-28:
25) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26) For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27) And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient …
Here the words “vile affections,” “against nature,” “unseemly” and “reprobate mind” are used in dealing with homosexuality.
There is no other way to interpret God’s word. America needs to turn back to the ways of God. Everyone must repent of sin and turn to Jesus Christ to enjoy the blessings of God again in this great country.
