MARY JANE JUROFCIK: Indiana residents rallied to help woman
I would like to thank the town of Indiana for rising to the occasion. On April 14, a spaghetti dinner was held to benefit Dove Bright. I was in awe of the way Indiana came together to help with this benefit for Dove. All proceeds from the dinner were put into The Dove Bright Care Fund at S&T Bank in Indiana.
Joe Lubold, from the Rustic Lodge, was a wealth of information with different contacts regarding advertising and giving us his Chef John for the day of the dinner. Ed Jones at the Gazette Printers was so helpful, along with other local businesses that donated everything we needed so that the entire profit from the dinner went directly to The Dove Bright Care Fund.
Eighty-two people called to work the dinner. Another 15 showed up the day of the dinner, saying that they were able to help. Quite a few of the callers offered to do anything for me once they realized I lived an hour and half away from Indiana. They were willing to make pickups at Wendy’s, Starbuck’s, Luigi’s Risorante, Yarnick’s Farm Market, McDonald’s and the Gazette Printers.
Father Bill Kiel graciously gave us his parish hall at St. Bernard’s for our event. Lisa and John Avolio from St. Bernard’s were a tremendous help with being available for people dropping off donations from the local businesses. They also set up the hall, so all we had to do was walk in the day of the dinner and begin. Thanks to Judi Duffy for taking care of our order at DelGrosso’s.
The Indiana Church of the Brethren really came through with the ticket sales, workers and baked goods for the dinner. Other donors for the dinner were Girl Scout Troop 43070, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sanso’s of Homer City, Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Mall information office, Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Mind Sight, Renda Broadcasting, Full Gospel Assembly of God and Bi-Lo.
Thank you, Indiana, for a job well done! It was my pleasure to be part of your city, even if only for a day.
