MELANIE BRIGHT: Family says thank you for support

on June 05, 2013 11:00 AM

The Bright family, Melanie, Dove and Dalton, send sincere thanks to all who have made our lives brighter this past year. Words can’t express how grateful we are to everyone helping to bring Dove home. This is a town full of good churches, good businesses and great people.

Our lives got turned upside down the morning of Feb. 24, 2012. It’s still hard to believe Dove went to bed without any sign of illness, woke up with a stiff neck, and within hours was completely paralyzed on a ventilator. This was not on the list of worries of a mother of teenagers.

As a single mom with much help from my late parents, George and Vera Bright, I’m so glad I stayed in Indiana. Like many, when I graduated, I couldn’t wait to move away.

My father was right; this is the perfect town to raise a family. He passed just prior to Dove’s illness; she was Grandpa’s girl! I’m sure he’s pleased with all who are helping us and is extremely proud of Dove for being so strong, as am I and all who know her.

Being able to give hugs, pet her cat and hang with friends is what she really misses. All the cards, words of encouragement and prayers have kept spirits up and that beautiful smile on her face.

From the first deposit into the Dove Bright Care Fund at S&T Bank by the Soccer Boosters, to so many generous donations, from friends, relatives, attorneys, churches and strangers, we are close to getting her home. Hopefully by her 21st birthday.

So many new friendships have been made. Dove has now what she calls her angels. They organized very successful fundraisers. Special thanks to them, all involved and all who attended. Thanks also to my employer and employees of Citizens’ Ambulance for everything, and the Indiana school employees not only for help with Dove, but Dalton, too.

And now the hard work of planning and development with CNC Construction and all they are pulling together to get the house accessible. Generous donations from Grace Church, Eagles Club and Tree Monkeys, all so appreciated.

Every day we pray for a miracle, of course, for a full recovery; however, so many miracles have come along the way. God bless you all.
