RANDY EVANS: Concealed-carry class benefits firearms owners
I would like to make a recommendation to firearms owners like myself. In early February I attended a class, hosted by the Indiana Bow and Gun Club, to become qualified for a Utah concealed carry permit.
Taking the course was an eye-opening experience for me.
I learned a lot about the legalities and proper procedures regarding self-protection as a legally permitted owner.
I have been permitted and owned firearms for more than 30 years. I consider myself to be a responsible and knowledgeable owner.
After taking this class, I realized a lot of what I thought I knew about firearms laws and the interpretation of them was based on hearsay and opinions of others. I am now aware of the facts and the laws concerning fire-arms.
I want to strongly recommend firearms owners take, in addition to firearms handling safety classes, similar types of classes to learn accurate information about Pennsylvania and federal laws as well as real-world interpretations.
Also, I suggest law enforcement, in particular those responsible for assuring concealed carry permits, offer classes and educational materials about the gun laws and how they are generally enforced by the authorities.
The Indiana Bow and Gun Club will be offering this class again in early April. I want to strongly recommend individuals take advantage of this opportunity to learn about concealed carry laws and regulations to enhance their personal knowledge.
