RODNEY ALLSHOUSE: Eagle Scouts urged to help after storms
Attention, Eagle Scouts:
This weekend my wife and I went to the cemetery to place flowers. It is apparent that the weekend weather event has had quite an impact on the memorial flags on display.
Some flags and their holders are blown over and some wooden sticks broken.
I would think that cemeteries all over our area might be in such condition.
I am calling out all Eagle Scouts to contact your old patrol and go to your local cemetery to straighten and restore the flags placed on the graves of those who served us and our country. My Eagle ceremony was 51 years ago and you might not know where your old patrol members are today. Since the knee replacement, you might say that you can't do such things.
Contact the local troop at the fire hall, the young peoples group at church; get your grandchildren, some neighbors.
You didn't get your Eagle badge by not being organized with "stick to the task" abilities. Then after the event, spring for pizza somewhere. Perhaps a 24-bottle case of Grape Nehi would be good.
Remember our motto: "Be prepared." Consider yourself "called out" to remember those who in some cases gave the "last full measure of devotion." Some may have, in fact, been Eagle Scouts themselves.
