TIMOTHY L. WILSON: Add taxes to mix on gas prices

on July 24, 2013 10:30 AM

I do not know Mr. Crnarich who wrote the July 17 letter to the editor or his background, but the gentleman is spot on when he cites the regressive nature of transportation costs (“Give taxpayers break on transportation costs”).

Here is another little item that can be added to the mix. The state Senate has already passed a tax bill that is predicted to add another 28.5 cents to a gallon of gas. If it passes the House, today’s $3.70 cost per gallon of gas rises to nearly $4. Regressive to be sure. In this case Mr. Crnarich’s suggestion would be extended to ensure contact with your state senator and representative.
