WILLIAM S. BALINT: Vote to continue high-level school program
Many give little thought to the Indiana Area school board members except to complain about school taxes at election time.
Having served a very long time on that board, I can tell you that running a $45 million-$50 million business of educating the youth of this district with an ever-declining contribution from the state of Pennsylvania does cost more local dollars to maintain a very good educational program kindergarten through 12th grade.
As to elections, one is coming up in May. Please remember that a school board collectively hires the superintendent to head up the educational agenda; the principals and assistant principals to be in charge of the various school buildings; and the teachers to man the classrooms of the buildings. During my tenure I believe the succession of superintendents, principals and teachers hired were an excellent choice for the program.
I urge you to vote in the upcoming primary election for these candidates for school director: Walter Schroth, Julie Trimarchi Curraco, Danica Jackson and Eric Palmer. These candidates are all cross-filed so they can be elected on either the Republican or Democratic ballot. These candidates, I’m sure, will continue the fine performance of the Indiana Area school board in continuing a very high-level educational program in this district
