AWOL jurors tracked in Cambria

EBENSBURG (AP) — Cambria County plans to crack down on no-show jurors, even though things have improved dramatically since a judge two months ago warned people they would be fined if they ignored jury summonses.

The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat reported 28 of 183 people summoned for jury duty in Cambria County still didn’t show up on Thursday. That’s an improvement since Feb. 6, when County Judge Timothy Creany issued a stern warning when 45 of 215 residents were AWOL after being summoned.

The county’s judges will meet next week about how to handle the issue, but Creany says one sure step is that the 28 people who missed jury duty on Thursday will get another summons, each carrying a possible $100 fine.
