Driver ‘panicked’ in store crash
MCKEES ROCKS (AP) — Police said a 67-year-old woman “panicked” before she accidentally accelerated and smashed into a suburban Pittsburgh shoe store, injuring two people, instead of backing out of a handicapped parking space as she intended.
The Associated Press is not identifying the driver because Robinson Township police Chief Dale Vietmeier said she likely won’t be charged in the Sunday afternoon crash at the DSW Shoes store at Robinson Town Center, a major mall a few miles west of the city.
Police said a 52-year-old woman from nearby Moon Township and her 13-year-old son were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a Pittsburgh hospital.
Police said the Cadillac hopped the curb, smashed through a front window and traveled about 30 feet into the store when the driver accidentally put the vehicle in drive.
