by The Indiana Gazette on July 26, 2014 8:12 PM

Firefighters and hazardous-materials experts converged today when fire engulfed a building at a lumber processing plant just north of Indiana in White Township.

The Indiana and Creekside fire departments battled the flames at what was described as a storage building at Schroth Industries along Martin Road after the first alarm was sounded at 5:26 p.m.

As the fire grew, officials called for help from the Homer City, Clymer and Cherryhill Township fire departments just after 6 p.m. Authorities also activated Marion Center, Plumville and Black Lick fire departments to standby status, and the hazardous materials team from Indiana County Emergency Management Agency responded to safeguard local waterways from potential chemical runoff.

Units remained at the scene at 8 p.m.  There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
