Hearing in shooting rescheduled
The preliminary hearing scheduled Thursday for Eagan Minich, the White Township man accused of shooting and wounding an Indiana University of Pennsylvania student in an apartment house parking lot, was continued until March 27.
The hearing, before Magisterial District Court Judge Guy Haberl, in Indiana, was rescheduled at the request of Minich’s attorney to allow more time to prepare his defense.
Minich, 29, who lives along Old Route 56, is charged with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats during and following a confrontation just after 2 a.m. Jan. 30 in a parking lot at The Maple Town Houses, 565 Maple St., in White Township.
State police at Indiana charged that Minich followed Hayden Warmke, an IUP criminology student from Hollidaysburg, to the parking lot, and when the two men got out of their cars, Minich punched Warmke repeatedly in the face and then pulled a handgun and shot Warmke in his right thigh.
Warmke was walking with the aid of crutches at Thursday’s scheduled hearing.
The suspect fled the parking lot after the shooting. Minich surrendered to police the following day. He remains in the Indiana County Jail on $250,000 bond.
Police initially suspected the event to be road rage-related. During the investigation, a passenger who was in Minich’s vehicle prior to the shooting came forward and gave police additional details.
The passenger, Matthew Scott, told officers that as he rode with Minich following stops at two downtown Indiana taverns, Minich became mad and “followed a vehicle through town.”
He did not know why Minich was mad, Scott told police.
After the two vehicles arrived within seconds of each other at the parking lot, Minich assaulted Warmke, Scott told investigators.
Police said surveillance video at the apartment building corroborated some of those details
Scott also told police that after Warmke was shot, Minich warned Scott not to say anything about the shooting or he would kill him, according to court documents.
