Houses ravaged by overnight fire

on March 04, 2014 7:53 AM

Fire destroyed two homes early this morning in Indiana Borough.

The blaze began at a rental property at 506 S. Seventh St. and spread to an adjacent rental property on the corner of South Seventh and Grant streets. No injuries were reported.

The initial call came in just before 3 a.m., and firefighters from a number of companies responded to help fight the fire or were placed on standby. Nearby intersections were closed to traffic while firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.

The owners of the house where the fire started are Jason and Kris Levan, of White Township. Jason is the news editor at The Indiana Gazette.

Indiana Borough crews spread salt on the road as water turned to ice in single-digit temperatures.

The cause is under investigation, and it may be days until officials know what started the fire, according to a fire official at the scene.
