UNIONTOWN (AP) — A Fayette County judge has agreed to recuse herself from a hearing in the case of a man charged in the stabbing death of a woman who had cared for his ill mother at a mobile home park.

Henry Crawford, 56, is charged with homicide and burglary in Fayette County in the Jan. 28 slaying of Lisa Tupta, 49, at Holiday Mobile Home Park in North Union Township. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Defense attorney Mike Garofalo had called on Judge Nancy Vernon to recuse herself, saying his client had been prosecuted by her office when she was the district attorney.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said Vernon said Friday she didn’t recall the matter, citing the volume of cases she prosecuted, but she agreed to the request.
