PITTSBURGH (AP) — A jury has awarded $105,000 in civil damages to a Pittsburgh man who claimed police used excessive force against him during a 2010 traffic stop.

The federal jury on Wednesday awarded the money to Anthony Kenney, 40, who sued Pittsburgh police officer Matthew Turko for excessive force and officer Robert Smith for failing to intervene.

Kenney’s lawyer, Margaret Coleman, says the verdict sends a strong message to the police department.
