GALLITZIN — State police reported that a Loretto man driving a motorcycle was killed when a pickup truck crossed into his path Friday on Route 53 in Cambria County.

William Schwieters, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Cambria County coroner, state police reported.

Troopers at Ebensburg reported that Edward Roudybush, 27, of Gallitzin, lost control of the pickup truck as he traveled at a high rate of speed around a right curve in the highway.

After colliding with the motorcycle, the truck hit a guardrail, then traveled down an embankment and overturned several times.

Roudybush was transported to Altoona Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Troopers said Schwieters wore a motorcycle helmet.

The accident remains under investigation, according to police.
