New Florence man killed in wreck
SEWARD — A New Florence man died in a one-vehicle crash Monday on Hutchison Hollow Road, just west of Power Plant Road in East Wheatfield Township.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. and the state police at Indiana identified the victim as William Hunt, 37, of 1290 West Philadelphia St., New Florence.
Police said Hunt was traveling east at 12:36 p.m. when his Toyota 4Runner ran off the road for an unknown reason and hit a tree stump and then two trees, one on each side of the vehicle.
According to Overman, Hunt was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from the vehicle, either through one of the windows or the sunroof. When the SUV rolled onto its passenger side, Hunt was pinned underneath. Overman ruled the cause of death as crushing injuries to Hunt’s chest and abdomen.
Volunteer firefighters from the Armagh & East Wheatfield Township and Clyde fire departments extricated Hunt’s body from the overturned vehicle.
Hunt is the sixth person to die as the result of a motor vehicle accident on Indiana County roads this year, according to Gazette records.
His funeral arrangements are being handled by the Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, Armagh.
