An Indiana University of Pennsylvania student and his two roommates were assaulted by a group of seven men around 11 p.m. Saturday night in the 200 block of South Seventh Street, borough police report.

The male student and his companions, none of whom police identified, were confronted by the group of men. The suspects were acting disorderly, according to police.

The victim reported that he was kicked and punched by several of the suspects. A suspect threatened another one of the men with a knife.

Police said today that the victims didn’t know the suspects.

Of the seven attackers, the victim making the report was able to provide descriptions of four to police.

The man who pulled the knife, he told police, was a short white male with an average build. He wore a puffy vest, a Chicago Bulls hat and saggy dark jeans. Another suspect was a white male of medium height and overweight, police said, and one suspect is described as a tall, thin black man in a black tank top. The fourth assailant was a short, thin black man wearing a white thermal shirt, according to reports.

No additional descriptions were provided.

Law enforcement officials said they are checking into surveillance video from the area of the assault in hopes the incident was caught on camera.

Hit and run

An unidentified man was struck by a vehicle whose driver then fled the scene, borough police report.

Around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, the man was hit by a black Toyota Scion xB as he walked from Delaney Chevrolet and crossed at the corner of North Sixth and Water streets.

The vehicle then turned onto Sixth Street, driving toward Philadelphia Street, police said.

Reckless endangerment

Someone shot a plastic BB at an IndiGO bus, striking the driver, just before 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at Garman and Grant streets.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania police are asking that anyone with information call (724) 357-2141.



Someone stole a Garmin Nuvi GPS from a gray Mazda 3 sometime between 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Nixon Avenue, borough police report. The car was parked in a private lot.

An unidentified man stole $315.55 worth of merchandise around 7:35 p.m. Nov. 10 from the Walmart store in White Township, state police at Indiana said. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (724) 357-1960. 



State police at Indiana report that an unknown person took a 20-inch Husqvarna chainsaw and a gas-powered hedge trimmer sometime between Nov. 1 and Monday from the residence of Daniel Bowers, of New Florence.

The items are estimated to be worth about $600 together, according to police.

No further details were provided. 



Someone stole a range finder, a game camera and a security camera belonging to Michael and Pamela Yakemick, of Avonmore, sometime between 6 and 10 p.m. Sunday from their home at 151 Nelson Road, state police at Kiski Valley said.

An unknown person damaged Halloween decorations between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the 16th Street home of Betty Jennings, state police at Greensburg report.
