Prison head out after investigation
BELLEFONTE (AP) — The superintendent of two central Pennsylvania prisons has been replaced following an investigation into the rape of a female prison clerk.
The Centre Daily Times said Marirosa Lamas is no longer in charge of the Rockview and Benner Township state prisons effective Thursday. She is being kept on as a corrections employee.
Pennsylvania Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said the investigation is prompting procedural changes in the way prisons statewide will be run.
Authorities said Rockview prison inmate and convicted rapist Omar Best choked the clerk into unconsciousness and raped her. He is charged and awaiting trial.
Police said the employee had previously complained about Best but somehow was left alone with him.
