Shelocta-area man faces additional sex-related charges
EAST FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — State police have filed additional charges against a Shelocta-area man who already has been accused of carrying on an illicit relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Gregory Shaffer, 41, of Stitts Run Road, Armstrong County, was charged by troopers in Kittanning with having sex with the girl between April 5 and 7 in a hotel near Kittanning. He faces felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors, and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.
Shaffer was arrested July 1 on a warrant and is in the Armstrong County Jail awaiting a hearing scheduled next week.
He was first arrested in late April and accused of illegally harboring the girl. Shaffer waived his right to a hearing on charges of concealing the whereabouts of a child, interference with custody of children and corruption of minors, and has been scheduled for trial Oct. 7 in Armstrong County Common Pleas Court.
Shaffer was freed from jail May 6 after posting $20,000 bond.
Investigators charged that Shaffer began contacting the girl on May 10 through social media, then from May 15 through 21 by text message, proposing to have sex with her.
Troopers then arrested Shaffer on June 12 and charged him with six more felony charges.
He has been housed at Armstrong County Jail since then with bond set at $75,000 by District Judge James Andring, of Leechburg.
District Judge James Owen, of Kittanning, increased Shaffer’s bond requirement by $25,000 at a preliminary arraignment July 1.
Online court records show Shaffer is scheduled to appear for preliminary hearings on the pending charges in both courts on Monday.
