State police release Groundhog Day stats

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Along with throngs of people numbering in the thousands for the Groundhog Day activities over the weekend came reinforcements of state police troopers for traffic control, crowd control and heightened enforcement of traffic and other laws.

Officers from the Punxsutawney district office of the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement also took part in the patrols.

Troopers on the Groundhog Day detail issued 22 traffic citations and one warning, according to an activity report issued from the Punxsutawney station. Police charged four motorists with driving under the influence.

Police also cited three people with public drunkenness, one with underage drinking and one with a drug violation.
