CHESTER (AP) — Two children, ages 7 and 10, were killed and a toddler seriously injured when fire swept through their home in a city outside Philadelphia early Wednesday. Five firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

The blaze in Chester broke out around 6:30 a.m., with heavy flames and smoke visible from the rear of the house and reports of multiple people trapped inside. It was quickly brought under control, but Battalion Chief Jack Powers said two children were found in separate second-floor bedrooms and pronounced dead at the scene. A third child, believed to be 2 or 3 years old, was in critical condition at a hospital, officials said.

Mayor John Linder said six children were in the home when the fire erupted. The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Of the five firefighters who suffered minor injuries, one was treated at the scene and four were taken to a hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
