Westover teen killed, 3 others injured in crash
CHEST TOWNSHIP — A Harmony Area High School student was killed and three of her classmates were injured in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon in Clearfield County.
According to state police in Punxsutawney, the after-school accident occurred around 3:41 p.m. as the four were traveling south on Westover Road in a Ford F-250 pickup truck.
Police said the driver was speeding down the road, and the truck crossed into the opposing lane. It then went off the road and struck a tree before rolling over twice.
Three of the students, all girls, were flown to UPMC Altoona. A fourth student, also a girl, was taken by ambulance to the hospital. One of the four, who was identified as Autumn Mulhollen, 16, of Westover, died at the hospital.
Conditions of the other three were unavailable this morning. Neither the school nor state police would identify the girls. State police as policy do not identify juveniles involved in traffic accidents.
The Blair County Coroner’s Office said Mulhollen died of severe blunt force trauma. She was a passenger in the vehicle, police said. It was not clear who had been driving. Police haven’t determined whether the girls were wearing seat belts.
WTAJ-TV in Altoona reported that the girls were juniors and members of the high school basketball team.
Harmony Area Superintendent Jill M. Dillon said Wednesday the school district is trying to conduct classes as routinely as possible.
“We have counselors and crisis management here to assist students and staff as needed,” she said.
