RAYNE TOWNSHIP — A White Township woman was killed late Sunday when the car she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer rig on Route 119, officials said.

Mary Jo Scott, of Route 110, was pronounced dead just after midnight at the scene of the crash almost one-half mile south of Chambersville Road, Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. reported. Overman said Scott turned 60 on Saturday.

State police said Scott’s southbound car crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound truck with a tank trailer, driven by Daniel Arbster, 59, of Brookville.

The rig hit the passenger side of the car, police said.

Investigators reported Scott was not wearing a seat belt.

The wreck was reported to Indiana County 911 at 11:23 p.m., Overman said.

The Marion Center and Plumville fire departments and Citizens’ Ambulance service assisted at the scene. The Clymer fire company was placed on standby.

State police reported the highway was closed for three hours while troopers investigated the accident and wreckers removed the car and truck.

Overman said Scott died instantly from a blunt force injury of the chest, and he ruled the death an accident. He reported that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, and that toxicology tests will be performed.
