Megan’s Law offender

State police asked for public assistance in locating Eugene Campitelli Jr., 83, whose last known address was on Cemetery Rock Road, Crabtree. Troopers described Campitelli as a noncompliant registered sex offender.

YOUNG TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY

Drugs

Two Punxsutawney men, ages 20 and 22, were halted by police at a traffic stop at 1:29 a.m. Saturday on Walston Road, according to a report.

Troopers said the driver was under the influence of a controlled substance and the passenger was wanted on an arrest warrant.

Police withheld both men’s names and reported that the passenger was sent to Jefferson County Jail to await court action on the warrant.

McCALMONT TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY

Illegal texting

State police warned a couple against texting each other while troopers investigated a reported theft of money from a house along Orchard Street at 2 p.m. March 19.

The pair — a 48-year-old Punxsutawney woman and a 51-year-old Reynoldsville man — were then caught sending messages to each other.

With a history of harassment and theft complaints between the two, troopers cited each with a summary count of harassment. Their names were not released.

BURNSIDE TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY

Man arrested

State police held a 47-year-old Cherry Tree man at the Clearfield County Jail following his arrest on a bench warrant at 9:23 p.m. March 16 at 566 Sylvis Road.

Troopers answered a report of a person shooting a high-powered firearm at the house and discovered the outstanding warrant against the suspect.

Police withheld his name.

NORTHERN CAMBRIA, CAMBRIA COUNTY

Hit-and-run

State police reported that a motorist fled at 5:02 p.m. Friday after their vehicle sideswiped a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Lalina Hiner, of Northern Cambria, on Philadelphia Avenue at Almond Street. Police gave no description of the vehicle or the driver.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, JEFFERSON COUNTY

Drug violations

State troopers from Punxsutawney discovered drug paraphernalia in a motorist’s possession following a traffic stop at 1:39 a.m. Sunday on West Mahoning Street, according to a report.

The driver, a 19-year-old DuBois man, was suspected first of driving under the influence, police said. Charges have not yet been filed.

A 28-year-old Punxsutawney man was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop on West Mahoning Street at 6:45 p.m. March 17, according to state police at Punxsutawney.

No charges have yet been filed.

Weapons offense

State police reported that Stevonta Lofton, of Rossiter, was sent to the Jefferson County Jail after troopers found him in possession of an unpermitted pistol during a traffic stop at 9:39 p.m. Sunday on Clark Avenue at Hampton Ave.

Troopers charged Lofton, 31, with a third-degree felony count of possession of a firearm without a license and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. District Judge David Inzana released him on unsecured bond to await a hearing.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old Punxsutawney woman, was suspected of driving under the influence but was not immediately charged.

SALEM TOWNSHIP, WESTMORELAND COUNTY

Theft

Alexis Salvio, of Delmont, reported the theft of a black Gucci Disco purse valued at $1,000 from her vehicle at 7:30 p.m. Saturday while it was parked on Athena Drive.

State troopers from Kiskiminetas Valley reported that the thief broke the driver’s side rear window to get the purse.

GASKILL TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY

Theft

Tina Uhl, of Punxsutawney, reported to police that someone stole a 40-gallon propane tank from 35 Rachel Lane between 5:10 and 7:30 a.m. March 17. Troopers reported the tank was worth $30.
