DES MOINES, Iowa — North Carolina sophomore and Clyde native Evan Henderson won a pair of matches at the NCAA Wrestling Championships and earned All-America status Friday, becoming UNC’s first All-America selection since 2005.
He became the 23rd All-America selection in school history.
Henderson opened Friday night’s fourth session with his second pin of the tournament when he pinned Northern Iowa’s Joey Lazor in 1:52 to earn his first All-America honor.
Henderson then assured himself at least a sixth place finish as he bested Virginia Tech’s Zach Neibert for the second consecutive week with a 7-4 decision. Henderson returned to action in Saturday’s morning session against sixth-seeded Ugi Khishignyam of The Citadel, whom Henderson has beaten twice this season.
