The Indiana County Farmland Easement Board will accept applications until April 15 for individuals to enroll farms in the Farmland Preservation Program.

According to the board, “the program protects farmland from development by purchasing the conservation easement (development rights) associated with the farm.”

Enrollment criteria and applications can be found at or by contacting the conservation district at (724) 471-4741.

Promoting the program are, from left, Jim Resh, program administrator, and Dan, Lynette and Joey Yarnick, of Yarnick’s Farm. Dan Yarnick enrolled 55 acres of his produce farm in the program in 2008.
