Work will begin next week on the replacement of a bridge over a tributary of Cowanshannock Creek along Route 85 in Armstrong County.
The existing bridge has been found structurally deficient.
The concrete beam bridge, built in 1925, will be replaced by a box culvert. The bridge carries an average of 2,243 vehicles per day, according to PennDOT.
Beginning Monday, the first phase will begin with flagging operations at the bridge to facilitate widening. The second phase will start once a temporary signal is in place to control alternating one-lane traffic across the bridge while the box culvert is placed.
PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert to changing conditions, to pay attention to flaggers and remember that fines are doubled in work areas.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
