HS BASKETBALL: Indiana, Marion Center to meet in Optimist semifinals

Indiana defeated United, 65-39, on the opening night of the Indiana Optimist Club 44th annual underclass basketball tournament Tuesday evening at Fifth Street Gymnasium.

Earlier in the night, United beat Penns Manor, 56-41, and Marion Center thumped Blairsville, 60-38.

Riley Stapleton paced Indiana with a game-high 12 points. Kevin Jack tacked on eight points.

Caleb McAdoo scored 10 points to lead United.

Mike Gill, A.J. Brendlinger and Jake Beacker scored 10 points apiece for United in its first game. United had to play two games because Monday’s game was postponed and moved to Tuesday.

Penns Manor’s J.T. Horwat led all scorers with 19 points.

Todd Fetsko led Marion Center by scoring a game-high 20 points. Jake Bothell added 13 points.

Alex Horchar scored 10 points for Blairsville.

Indiana takes on Marion Center in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

In this evening’s games, Homer-Center faces Saltsburg at 7 p.m., and Ligonier Valley plays West Shamokin at 8:15. The winners advance to play in the semifinals at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
