Indiana’s Riley Stapleton scored 14 points, Kevin Jack added 13, and the Indians earned a 66-46 win over Marion Center in the semifinals of the Indiana Optimist Club’s 44th annual invitational basketball tournament for underclass players Thursday at Indiana High School.
Later in the night, West Shamokin won the other semifinal-round game by outlasting Homer-Center, 51-41.
In Game 1, Marion Center’s Todd Fetsko led all scorers with 23 points. Jake Bothell added 10 points.
West Shamokin’s Zane Clowser scored a game-high 21 points in Game 2.
Darren Carr paced Homer-Center with 14 points.
The championship game between Indiana and West Shamokin will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The girls’ all-star game will begin at 3:30 p.m., and the boys’ all-stars will play at 5 p.m.
Three to play in Roundball games
Three area high school basketball players have been selected to play in the Roundball Classic, a series of four all-star games that will be played at Geneva College on April 20.
The games feature top high school seniors in western Pennsylvania playing in two boys’ and two girls’ games.
Indiana’s Audrey Stapleton was chosen for the Class AAA girls’ team, which will take on the Quad-A all-stars at 4 p.m.
Two West Shamokin players, Anthony Rocco and Jill Glover, were selected. Rocco is a member of the Class AA boys’ team that will take on a team consisting of players from Class A schools in District 10 and the Pittsburgh City League at 6 p.m.
Glover was selected for the West girls’ team, which will take on the East team at 2 p.m.
The Quad-A vs. Class AAA boys’ game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
IUP tennis team wins again
AKRON, Ohio — IUP earned its fifth straight win and improved to 8-6 by defeating Wayne State, 6-3, in a non-conference women’s tennis match Thursday at the Tow Path Tennis Club.
Erika Schnaas, Abby McCormick, Ranvita Mahto and Tanya Timko each won in singles play for IUP. The doubles teams of Timko and Emilia Osborne and McCormick and Alanna McFail each notched wins.
IUP takes on Grand Valley State today in Akron.
Fishing derby set in Clymer
CLYMER — The 13th annual fishing derby sponsored by the Clymer Moose Lodge will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 28, on Two Lick Creek.
