What should we look for in decorating our homes? Well, to begin with, everything old is new again.
Remember when mirrors were the rage as the interior-design trend? Mirrors are back again. Grouped mirrors are the fashion. To spruce up a living room, a grouping of small mirrors creates an interesting focal point. Using mirrors of different sizes and shapes, placed in an attractive grouping, will do the trick. As usual, odd numbers work better.
Remember how popular brass and glass were well over a decade ago? Guess what’s back in vogue? The brass is being seen more in lamps and candleholders, and in vases and other accent pieces. The idea is to bring a bit of glamour to the home with the sparkle that brass affords. Glass cut into interesting shapes for accessories is popular, and etched glass for doors are back.
Leather furniture is back big-time — but for many, it’s never been out of style. Suede is also in vogue. If fabric is your preference for upholstery, then two patterns stand out: stripes and lots of stripes; and bold botanical, floral type prints. If you are afraid of too much pattern, express yourself in toss pillows, making them the bold botanical pattern or the striped pattern or perhaps a combination of both.
Color trends are bold, bolder and boldest. This trend can be seen in fabrics as well as on walls.
A boldly painted accent wall can make an otherwise ordinary room pop. Same goes for a bold-patterned wallpaper.
